Went in for an initial appointment today. The front desk was very nice, but the lady who took me back was a bit rude. I felt pretty awful about myself because I couldn't pay their fees up front and I was not aware of what services I was going to need in order to receive a simple "look" or exam for the first visit. My insurance says it covers an exam, but they would not do it without xrays, which are not covered. I understand how insurance works and I understand that she was only doing her job, but she was not nice about it. I would not recommend this place because of her specifically. I'm going to try to get in with a private practice that won't refuse services without all the payment up front for something that isn't even processed with the insurance yet. It's not the fact that I had to pay or else they wouldn't see me--I can get that, it's your office policy. It's the slight attitude she had with me that I didn't appreciate. Hopefully she's nice to the patients that can pay!
Last Friday I was told I needed a deep cleaning or I would have problems with my gums. After discount it cost me almost $1000 out of pocket. What a rip off, the next day my crow fell off? I went back there to have my crown put in. The dental Assistant was great! But after reading about Deep Cleaning, I was Pissed! What a rip off, I saw the Dental Hygienist who cleaned my teeth. I told her she was full of bull, just another way to make money, the Denist is good, but the company is a major rip off. I was told there was a class action lawsuit about their scam. Don’t walk away from them! Run as fast as you can!
I will never come back. I was told that I have to have a deep cleansing of my teeth. Not only was she very rough with her instrument after knowing how much I fear dental work, she told me that by law, I had to get this done because she had diagnosed me, and she wasn't allowed to do a different kind of cleaning even if I wanted it. This cleaning, after insurance, was almost $900! I've been going there for years, but I'm not going to be strong armed into getting this done by someone I've never met before, who wasn't gentle at all! To top it off, I'd have to go back every 3 months for maintenance cleanings at $100 each after insurance stops paying. All this could be legit, but she blew it when she told me I had no choice. I always have a choice, and my choice is to go elsewhere.
The only reason I still go to this office is Dr Daniel Schaffer and his nurse. Dr Schaffer is a great dentist. The staff will not answer the phone when you call and when you leave a message, they won't return your call. I had to drive to the office several times make an appointment to see the dentist. I am not the only one this has happened too, it has happened to others also I've been told. This is unacceptable for a dental office.
Today I took my 86 year old mother in to Lakewood Ranch for her cleaning. The young woman who took care of her was from Cuba when I asked. Her compassion, gentleness and skill was outstanding! I've never experienced such gentleness and compassion before and to show it to my precious mom bright tears to my eyes. Thank you.
