This school in Sarasota FL is amazing! The staff love the children and the kids learn so much. My son has been attending here for a few years now and loves going and seeing everyone. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from a school with the same name but in Tampa, FL. Oak Park in Sarasota, FL is great and children are safe. The resource officers are trained to de-escalate situations. Please consider this school for your special needs child.
How can any parent take their kid to a school with this low of a rating??? Ratings don’t lie. These reviews are disgusting and I don’t understand how they’re still open. Nobody in town advocates for that dump except the people that work there! No happy parents or students! Pay attention parents. We are our children’s protection.
So this place actually lies about children injuring staff so they can press charges, allow me to explain. So about a month ago I recieved a call from the principal and she told me that my son had pushed a janitor off of the stage in the cafeteria, and I did believe it at first but then at the parent meeting some of the staff were contradicting what someone else said and some staff were told to “just be quiet I got this” from the principal, and they did show me a video taken by the cameras but some people in the background were moving as fast as the action and if you squint then you could see a mat where the janitor fell, and my son told me that he didn’t do it and that it was all a part of the acting class he was in, so I decided to buy a cheap tiny camera off of Ebay and watched some tutorials on how to connect it to my database then pinned it to my son’s clothes, and he actually wasn’t lying, he did go to acting class or I guess it’s actually called “drama class”, so my theory is that the school took the security footage and spead it up, to make it look like he was a fast fighter, and they showed everyone just so they could press charges on me!
I happened to work there for a short period of time. What can I say? The school definitely helps students with disabilities, straightens out students with major behavior issues without a whip and for that, the staff needs to be rewarded with cash or gift cards on a weekly basis. They let a sigh of releaf out at the end of each day saying that they are happy to be alive. But...the school can definitely do a much better job in terms of keeping everyone safe. That, unfortunately, is a major concern since they do not have enough team members to respond to emergency situations. Just finished my physical therapy related to the injury there...3 months. Never going back.
This school just told me I can't advocate for my son because I wasn't the parent that registered him. Seeing how I was working 60 hours a week at the time, it made sense for my unemployed ex husband to take care of his registration. This isn't the first time this school has been completely insulting.
